garden soil improvement?
yes I need some!! Our soil here has too much clay.
Last fall we did alot of sand but not enough apparently.
Fred was plowing it up for the first time this spring
and look at all of the clay!
Any ideas od what we should ad besides more sand?
on another note I noticed my bleeding heart is blooming!
I just love these unique flowers!

Sand, beach sand, sprinkle it everywhere you need to plant. Get Char to bring to some.
really.
@Ikwa - in our creek bottoms that are dry beds right now....there is alots and lots of sand ! Im sending Chancy down tomorrow hopefully with the skidloader to get some more scoops of it!
the sand will help break up the clay but won't add much nutrient value. What you really need is topsoil, or you could go to Village Market and get some of Kevin's mushroom soil. It will add humus to the soil for following years and fertile values for this year. Get Chancy to clean out the barn and put all that good stuff on it. Clay will always be clay, just sayin'
i was reading lawn clippings but i did that and the weeds were crazy!
I put coal ash on from our coal stove and that helps. Grass clippings might help but it brings weeds with it too.
