My birthday was earlier this month
and my nice Aunt Sharon brought me some flowers
last evening on the way to the youth Bible study Cody had a bad accident. It happened about 1 1/2 miles from our house. He was driving his jeep and was by himself. Normally Chancy would have been with him but because Novalee & Darin were in PA, Chancy is taking care of their animals. He was going to sleep at their house after the Bible study. So they were in seperate vehicles.
Cody had his windows and the sun roof open and some things were blowing around. He was trying to "catch" them. He ran off the road a little on a gravel drive and then over corrected and went off the other side of the road and hit a bank and was ejected. The jeep then flipped several times before stopping and then started to burn.
here is where he ran off the road
and then overcorrected and went off the other side
here in the front right of the pic you can see
where the jeep stopped and burnt
in the middle of the pic you can see
where he came off the road and was ejected.
Chancy had forgotton something and turned around to go back to the house and was the first one at the scene of the accident. A neighbor lady went past and called the fire dept. The took Cody by ambulance to the hospital. He had no broken bones. He does have a puncture wound under his left arm, that they stitched and a gash in his head that they stapled. He also has serious "road rash" on both sides of his torso. He was able to come home around midnight. He is very sore and stiff! I am praising the Lord that he is ok.
The paramedics said that if he had not been ejected......he most likely would have been killed. He normally wears his seatbelt but did not wear it last evening. He thinks he was ejected throught the sun roof. I have no doubt in my mind that God was watching out for him.
Yesterday May 1st was Mom's Birthday.
Novalee and I planned a little surprise
we invited our local aunts and moms local cousins and a friend from church to meet us at a restaurant. I told mom I was taking her out for lunch. We got to the restaurant and I stopped by a little side roo and looked in. Mom said she wondered what I was doing. She glanced in and it was so funny to see her surprised face when she saw the ladies and Novalee! I wish I had had my camera but I had left it in the car so she would not be suspicious
Some of the ladies could not come but we still had fun
They all brought her a little gift even though I had told them it was not necessary
Fred & I hosted a mystery supper for the youth the last Friday evening of April.
Invitations were given.
The weather was not cooperating for our chosen location of the deck off of Mom & Dad's upstairs apartment in town. It was cool and rainy and windy....so that day we set up inside the apartment.
My cousins Charlotte & LaRita and their husbands helped us serve.
The youth arrived and were given their menus
decisions decisons.......um I think they were a little clueless!
Here were there choices
20 items served in four courses
they had to right the numbers down in the order they wished to receive them
Im not sure who that strange boy in the middle belongs to....his poor mother
Cody, volunteered to sit with the gals.......and then texted to his gal all night!
After the meal we played some relay games
Here they are trying to find a piece of gum in the cool whip and then they were to chew it and blow a bubble ...the gum did not cooperate!
we also played a game where they had to "lead " or push LOL the lemon thoough the water bottles back and forth in a path.... quite entertaining!
We also played a game where they put a tennis ball in a clean ladies stocking that was then tied around their head and then they had to use the ball to knock down all the water bottles.. no hands!
Another game we did was to move jelly beans from one bowl to another without using their hands..... some of them were quite good at using that spoon in their mouth to move jelly beans from place to place
I had fun and I think they did too so I guess the evening was a success!
Last evening Mom & Dad invited, our family,
my sister Novalee's family
and Levi & Erica Good and their cute little gal,
over for a fish fry.
Some of them also played hearts
and some of us played Rummikub
It was a nice relaxing evening.
This evening we went looking for Morels
I actually thought to take the camera along!
We only found 10 Morels.....what a dissapointment
we have found lots more other years.
Right now these things are bringing $40 a gallon!!
Here is the river that flows to the west and south of our property.
This is actually the west branch of the South Fabius River
We saw quite alot of signs of past beaver damage.
nothing real recent though and no sign of a dam
Walking around today I noticed alot of pretty flowers and such.
So, I decided to head back to the house and nab the camera.
Down in the woods there are lots of wild violets growing near the creek
and some other little purple flowers
( I do not know what they are called)
there are lots of vines already climbing up trees
Here is what the creek is looking like this time of the year
I saw some firewood already cut and waiting for next year.
HEre is the view across the drive into the neighbors pasture
where the same little creek runs through
walking up the drive here is my view of our house up on the hill
little dandelions are everywhere this time of the year
Here are some flowers I planted on the side of the hill
I think they are called creeping phlox
and last of all I passed the strawberry bed.
It was alot nicer but last year we had trouble
with the calves getting out and eating them off.
So as mentioned before our garden spot (like most of our property) has alot of clay. So we are trying to improve the soil. For starters we are adding some better soil. This soil is a mixture of top soil and sand. We are finding it down in the creek bottom area of our woods where it is washed to during spring flash floods.
Here is where the dirt is coming from
Here is Chancy manuvering it around with the spectators watching in awe
Here is chancy dumping it onto the chosen garden spot.
Now for the next step.......maybe tomorrow right now it is raining.
